We had some strangely branded ones and a Makita dri,l the Scout Camp. Still on the original batteries despite a lot of use, so they must be decent ones – a sign of quality on any cordless tool.
Just think, if I had put it away in its box then I wouldn’t have the lovely lithium powered Makita drill I bought to replace it.! That might seem like unnecessary frippery but, after you’ve used it for a while you realise how much more ergonomic and comfortable it is than a traditional stick handle.

I bought a blue Bosch Batteries have AEG on them I bought them because I now have 9 chinese and jap drills including hitachi and makita all with duff batteries all have lasted well and given ok service but the batt’connections have changed every few years and I have not been able to replace the batt’s. You always end up with a crappy tool, just to avoid the possibility that you might miss out on Feature X in 10 years time. I’m not convinced that the safety ring switch is any improvement over a traditional push switch but it’s no worse.
I have owned crappy Bosch, whuich many say are the equiv. Vented Nicads can be very quick to charge and give high torque on a par with Li but they only came with real quality kit, and probably no longer available, but the weight!! This is a long-established German company, manufacturing in Europe, who’ve supplied Porter Cable and Mafell amongst others, still controlled by the founding family who will respond personally to e-mails, FWIW.

I still rate Makita as I have got several bits of kit inc. The plan being to upgrade the workshop to a bigger and better new Makita.

Erbauer 14.4v Battery
The haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy. I couldn’t find anything that impressed me.
And if you think you can just go out and buy a new 14.4v Poly battery for your old drill. And in time Lith Iron or Lith Poly batteries would have been introduced. All I need now is to find my really old and filthy waterproof trousers that I should have had on when I was pressure washing a boat today – I wouldn’t have got so wet when the pipe split!
Better than being lumbered for 10 years with outdated stuff with old battery technology.

Trouble is, I too keep baulking at the prices because I really want to get a LiIon one this time The only minor gripe I have is that it only has a small charger so takes 4 hours to charge – maybe I should invest in a fast charger. Shant make 41.4v mistake again.
